Getting around Vietnam



Taxis are plentiful, clean, safe, and inexpensive in Vietnam and can be found at taxi stands or busy city areas and are easily hailed on the streets.

Tips and information

– Most of the drivers cannot speak English, so before taking a taxi, it is a good idea to have your hotel (or a Vietnamese friend) write down your destinations on a small piece of paper in both Vietnamese and English

– Tip is not necessary.

– Recommended taxi: Vinasun Taxi, MaiLinh Taxi



Each province in Vietnam has its own bus terminal in big cities including Hanoi (My Dinh Bus Station, Giap Bat bus stations), Hochiminh City(Mien Tay, Mien Dong). The price depends on the distance and the type of the route.
Hours of operation: around 04:30am- around 07:30 pm

Tips and information

– Buy bus tickets from registered booths of large companies inside the terminals. For “city route bus” ticket can be bought on site.

– Avoid waiving bus along the way for your own safety reasons (those buses may run around the cities until it collects enough passengers, which may take hours.

– For city route bus, make sure you catch bus at the station and know exactly where you want to get off and show the bus staff/driver.

– Bring along with you a piece of paper and a pen to write down your destination or questions, as language barrier can cause difficulties

– Keep strict eye on your luggage and wallet, especially if using public and local bus

The drivers are well trained. They not only have safe driving skills but also possess local knowledge. More importantly, they are familiar with the roads in Viet Nam. Some drivers can communicate with guests in English.




Vietnam trains are the ideal way for independent travelers to get around Vietnam and see Vietnam at ground level. Vietnam Air-conditioned trains are safe, comfortable and inexpensive. Trains between Hanoi and Saigon are sometimes referred as the Reunification Express by guide books and tourist agencies.  Trains leave Hanoi city centre in the evening and arrive in Hue city centre next morning.
There are four categories of Vietnam trains: air-conditioned soft sleepers, air-conditioned hard-sleepers, air-conditioned soft seats, air-conditioned hard seats.

Flying is the quickest way to travel if your time is short. Flying helps you access the destinations within and outside Vietnam.The following airlines are listed to help travelers select the right services.

On Apr 1993, Vietnam Airlines was officially established as the country’s national flag carrier with domestic and international routes. Vietjet Air , which is classified as the low cost airline, is a dynamic, innovative airline. Vietjet  is operating an intensive flight network in Vietnam and is planning to expand its operation throughout Asia-Pacific region.

Jetstar Pacific Airlines, which is classified as the low cost airline headquartered in Tan Binh District, Hochiminh City, Vietnam.  With its hub at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Hochiminh City), operates scheduled domestic and international services along with charter flights.
